Filler board is one of those materials that does not get talked about much but appears in almost every commercial construction and interior fit-out project in the UAE. It closes the gaps, levels the inconsistencies, and gives finishing trades the clean, flat substrate they need to produce professional results. Unlike filler compound applied from a tub, filler board is a rigid panel installed between structural or frame elements to provide a solid, consistent backing. It is used in raised flooring systems, suspended ceiling perimeters, dry-lining, and partition infill applications where you need something more substantial than a thin skim of filler compound but lighter and faster to install than masonry or timber blocking.

What Filler Board Is Used For

• Raised floor perimeter infill: In commercial office fit-outs with raised access flooring, filler board fills the gap between the floating floor level and fixed walls, stairwells, and columns. It provides a neat, solid edge that the carpet or tile edge trim can terminate against without the flex you would get from cardboard or foam.
• Expansion joint filler: Concrete structural expansion joints need a compressible filler that holds its shape through temperature cycles and allows controlled movement without cracking adjacent finishes. Bitumen-impregnated fibreboard is the standard material used in UAE construction for this purpose.
• Suspended ceiling void closure: At perimeter walls, columns, and service penetrations, filler board closes the gap between the ceiling tile grid and the adjacent structure, improving fire compartmentalisation and completing the visual finish.
• Lightweight partition infill: Metal stud partition frames often need solid backing at switch points, heavy fixture locations, and corners. Filler board provides the rigidity that plasterboard alone cannot, without adding the weight and complexity of timber noggins.
• Sub-floor levelling: On uneven concrete slabs where self-levelling compound is impractical or too expensive, filler board shims compensate for height variation and provide a stable, flat surface for resilient floor coverings.
• Window and door frame packing: Filler boards cut to the required thickness are used to pack and align window and door frames within masonry and steel openings, ensuring correct plumb and square before fixing.

Types of Filler Board We Supply

Bitumen-impregnated fibreboard: The standard expansion joint filler for concrete construction. Dark brown or black, comes in standard 1m x 2m panels in 12mm, 18mm, and 25mm thicknesses. Compressible to allow structural movement while maintaining a solid, closed face.

Plain compressed fibreboard: Used for general infill, packing, and backing applications where the main requirement is a solid, flat, consistent panel that can be cut with a saw or scored and snapped.

PP hollow board: Lightweight, waterproof, and easy to handle. Used in applications where moisture resistance matters more than structural performance - particularly in bathrooms, kitchens, and external applications where traditional fibreboard would absorb moisture and fail.
