Applications
What Is PP Floor Protection Sheet and Why Is It Used on UAE Construction Sites?
Polypropylene (PP) floor protection sheet is a corrugated twin-wall plastic board laid over newly installed flooring on construction and fit-out sites. It protects finished surfaces — marble, tile, stone, hardwood, and polished concrete — from scratches, staining, impact damage, and moisture during the remaining construction phases. In the UAE, where high-end marble and stone finishes are standard in residential, hotel, and commercial projects, protecting the floor immediately after installation is one of the most cost-effective decisions on any fit-out programme.
How Long Does PP Floor Protection Last on a UAE Construction Site?
A quality 4mm corrugated PP protection sheet holds up through the entire active construction phase under normal site traffic — foot traffic, tool trolleys, light material movement — typically 4–12 weeks depending on project intensity. Under heavy plant movement (scissor lifts, loaded trolleys over 500kg), the sheet may compress but continues to protect the floor surface underneath. After use, clean and roll the sheet for reuse on the next floor or the next project. Most sheets are reused 3–6 times before replacement.
What Is the Difference Between Blue and Yellow PP Floor Protection Sheets?
Blue PP protection sheets are the standard product for residential and commercial fit-out applications — adequate for foot traffic, light tools, and material movement in typical finishing-phase conditions. Yellow PP sheets are a heavier gauge used in areas with intense traffic or where heavy loads cross the finished floor — hotel lobbies during active construction, car park levels with pallet trucks, or areas where scaffolding is being loaded and unloaded over expensive stone. Yellow sheets also provide a high-visibility warning signal in busy site areas.
How to Order Floor Protection Rolls for a Multi-Storey UAE Project
Calculate your total floor area across all protected levels, divide by 2 (for 2m roll width) to get linear metres required, and add 15–20% for waste, overlaps, and corridor coverage. Contact our Sharjah team with your floor area, floor type being protected, and delivery location. For multi-storey projects, we can arrange staged deliveries — rolls delivered floor by floor as the flooring teams complete each level, so protection is always on site when needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What floor types can PP protection sheets be used on?
PP floor protection sheets work on marble, granite, porcelain, ceramic tile, hardwood, engineered wood, laminate, terrazzo, luxury vinyl tile (LVT), and polished concrete. They are non-staining and non-adhesive — they sit flat under their own weight on most smooth surfaces without leaving any residue when removed. On sloped or uneven surfaces, tape the sheet edges to prevent movement.
Are floor protection sheets reusable?
Yes. A quality PP floor protection sheet can be cleaned, rolled up, and reused on the next floor or next project. Unlike cardboard — which absorbs moisture, tears, and goes to the skip after one use — polypropylene holds its shape and remains effective through multiple use cycles. On a 20-floor tower, the same rolls can cover each floor as the finishing team progresses from top to bottom.
What is the difference between blue and yellow PP floor protection sheets?
Blue PP sheets are the standard weight for typical fit-out floor traffic. Yellow sheets are a heavier gauge for high-traffic zones where loaded trolleys, scissor lifts, or scaffolding cross the finished floor. Yellow also provides a high-visibility warning in busy areas. For most UAE residential and commercial fit-out projects, blue is the correct choice; upgrade to yellow for hotel lobbies and areas with heavy equipment movement.
What roll width do you supply?
Our standard floor protection roll is 2m wide, covering most room bays in one pass with minimal overlap. We also supply 0.9m rolls for corridors, stairwells, and narrow spaces. For large open-plan areas, the 2m roll can be rolled out quickly across the floor and lapped at joins for complete coverage. Contact our Sharjah team if you need different widths.
How do I estimate how many rolls I need for my UAE project?
Measure your total floor area to be protected in square metres. Divide by 2 to get the linear metres of 2m-wide roll required. Add 15–20% for overlaps, waste, and re-covering after subcontractor damage. For example, 500m² of floor area needs approximately 250 linear metres of 2m roll plus 15% = 288 linear metres. Contact our Sharjah team and we will calculate the exact quantity.
Can floor protection sheets block spills from reaching the floor?
Yes. PP corrugated sheets are fully waterproof — they block paint spills, silicone drips, grout slurry, cleaning chemicals, and water from reaching the floor surface underneath. This is one of the key advantages over breathable cardboard protection, which allows liquid spills to soak through and stain finished flooring. For particularly high-risk areas near wet trades, double-layering the sheets provides additional protection.
Do you deliver floor protection sheets to Dubai construction sites?
Yes. We deliver from our Sharjah warehouse to construction sites across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and all UAE emirates. For large projects with multiple active floors, we arrange staged deliveries to match your programme — protection arrives on site just as the flooring team finishes each level. Same-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon. Contact our team for project delivery scheduling.
